Image and Vision Computing has as a primary aim the provision of an effective medium of interchange for the results of high quality theoretical and applied research fundamental to all aspects of image interpretation and computer vision. The journal publishes work that proposes new image interpretation and computer vision methodology or addresses the application of such methods to real world scenes. It seeks to strengthen a deeper understanding in the discipline by encouraging the quantitative comparison and performance evaluation of the proposed methodology. The coverage includes: image interpretation, scene modelling, object recognition and tracking, shape analysis, monitoring and surveillance, active vision and robotic systems, SLAM, biologically-inspired computer vision, motion analysis, stereo vision, document image understanding, character and handwritten text recognition, face and gesture recognition, biometrics, vision-based human-computer interaction, human activity and behavior understanding, data fusion from multiple sensor inputs, image databases.

In addition to regular manuscripts, Image and Vision Computing Journal solicits manuscripts for the Opinions Column, aimed at initiating a free forum for vision researchers to express their opinions on past, current, or future successes and challenges in research and the community.

An opinion paper should be succinct and focused on a particular topic. Addressing multiple related topics is also possible if this helps making the point. While posing questions helps raising awareness about certain issues, ideally, an opinion paper should also suggest a concrete direction how to address the issues. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Comments on success and challenges in a (sub-) field of computer vision,
Remarks on new frontiers in computer vision
Observations on current practices and trends in research, and suggestions for overcoming unsatisfying aspects
Observations on current practices and trends in the community regarding, e.g., reviewing process, organizing conferences, how journals are run, and suggestions for overcoming unsatisfying aspects
Reviews of early seminal work that may have fallen out of fashion
Summaries of the evolution of one's line of research
Recommendations for educating new generations of vision researchers.

Special Issue on Recent Advances in Computer Vision for Assisted Living
Día de Entrega: 2024-09-15

The percentage of persons who require healthcare support and a secure environment is unquestionably rising in our aging culture. As a result, there is an increasing need for technological solutions for prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation. These solutions not only support clinicians but also empower patients to take control of their own health and welfare. Such solutions are ideally suited for computer vision. Indeed, significant progress has been achieved in the automatic and trustworthy recognition of image or video content during the past two decades, including face, object, and motion recognition as well as gesture and activity detection and recognition. Non-intrusive visual sensors may assess and track the physical state of the human body in healthcare to give clinicians real-time feedback and/or support engaging and interesting rehabilitation activities. Consequently, the use of computer vision, pattern recognition, and machine learning techniques are of extreme importance for assisted living solutions. The aim of the proposed special issue is to promote research, reflect the most recent advances, and provide a stage for worldwide researchers from computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, pattern recognition for assisted living solutions, with an emphasis on the following aspects, but certainly not limited to: Computer vision for assisted living Machine learning and deep learning for assisted living Gesture and action recognition Gait analysis Human behavior analysis Daily living activity recognition Fall detection and prevention Users privacy preferences in context-aware solutions Guest editors: Imad Rida, PhDUniversity of Applied Sciences for Technology Compiegne, Compiegne, France(Machine learning, pattern recognition, computer vision) Francisco Florez-Revuelta, PhDUniversity of Alicante, Alacant, Spain(Intelligent environments, computer vision, assisted living, privacy) Manuscript submission information: The IMAVIS’s submission system (Editorial Manager) will be open for submissions to our Special Issue from November 15th, 2023. Special Issue on Embodied Artificial Intelligence for Robotic Vision and Navigation
Día de Entrega: 2025-01-30

Embodied Artificial Intelligence has emerged as an essential area for research and applications. Unlike traditional AI systems that operate solely in the digital realm, Embodied AI seeks to imbue machines with a physical presence, enabling them to perceive, interact, and learn from the real world. Robotic Vision and Navigation integrates computer vision techniques to process and make sense of visual data, such as images or videos, allowing the AI system to perceive obstacles, recognize landmarks, and navigate through complex surroundings. This capability is essential for embodied AI to function autonomously in diverse environments, such as homes, offices, or outdoor spaces. This special issue seeks original contributions towards advancing the theory, architecture, and algorithmic design for Vision and Navigation systems in Embodied AI, as well as their novel applications and use cases. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) with: Embodied Artificial Intelligence Robotic Vision Visual-Language Navigation Embodied AI with Large foundation Models Embodied Question Answering Multi-modality Fusion and Understanding Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning Guest editors: Xiao Bai, PhDBeihang University, Beijing, China Haonan Luo, PhDSouthwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China Zechao Li, PhDNanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China Joey Tianyi Zhou, PhDNational University of Singapore, Singapore, Singapore Manuscript submission information: The Journal's submission system (Editorial Manager) will be open for submissions to our Special Issue from May 30th, 2024.
