An International Journal on the Physics and Chemistry of Optical Materials and their Applications, including Devices

Optical Materials has an open access companion journal Optical Materials: X which has the same aims and scope, editorial board and peer-review process. To submit to Optical Materials: X visit https://www.editorialmanager.com/OMX/default.aspx.

The purpose of Optical Materials is to provide a means of communication and technology transfer between researchers who are interested in materials for potential device applications. The journal publishes original papers and review articles on the design, synthesis, characterisation and applications of optical materials.OPTICAL MATERIALS focuses on:

• Optical Properties of Material Systems;
• The Materials Aspects of Optical Phenomena;
• The Materials Aspects of Devices and Applications.

Authors can submit separate research elements describing their data to Data in Brief and methods to Methods X.

Manuscripts that focuses on pure computational methodology falls outside of the scope of this journal.

Special Issue on Optical glasses, the research pillar of photonics: In celebration of the 80th birthday of Prof. Giancarlo C. Righini
Día de Entrega: 2024-12-31

This SI aims to recognize the long and brilliant activity of Prof. Giancarlo C. Righini in the field of optical glasses with a series of articles devoted to glass photonics and its application in crucial areas of past, modern, and future science and technology. Prof Giancarlo C. Righini is a globally recognized scientist and leader in glass-based photonics. Glass photonics is pervasive in wide-ranging applications of direct impact on society and drives the research in countless enabling technologies. Optical glasses are the cornerstone of photonic structures crucial for information engineering, biological and medical sciences, sensing, lightning, energy, and quantum technologies. The technological and scientific results obtained in the last 50 years have proven that photonics and glass science smartly cooperate to develop new physics, new devices, and new applications. This cross-disciplinary approach leads to “smart structures,” that address socio-economic challenges such as security, energy saving, efficient and clean industrial production, environmental protection, and fast and efficient communications. In this SI we want to celebrate the 80th birthday of Prof. Righini through a collection of robust papers offering a wide vision of the most recent achievements, as well as indicating the future perspectives in glass-based photonics.
