IEEE Internet Computing provides journal-quality evaluation and review of emerging and maturing Internet technologies and applications. The magazine targets the technical and scientific Internet user communities as well as designers and developers of Internet-based applications and enabling technologies. IC publishes refereed articles on the latest developments and key trends in Internet technologies and applications. A crossroads between academic researchers and software professionals, the magazine presents novel content from academic and industry experts on a wide range of topics, including applications, architectures, information management, middleware, policies, security, and standards. It applies theory to the practice of building Internet systems and feeds the experience of Internet system construction and use back into research and theory. The magazine reaches more than 7,000 subscribers internationally, comprising leading researchers, developers, and engineers. In addition to peer-reviewed articles, IC features industry reports, surveys, tutorials, columns, and news. Scope IEEE Internet Computing magazine is multidisciplinary by nature in the field of Internet computing. The magazine focuses on all aspects related to Internet computing, including but not limited to Internet ethics; Internet governance; distributed computing; security, privacy, and trust; Internet economics; social media; web-based applications; and standards. Emphasis is given to technologies, system engineering issues, and applications that allow practitioners to leverage services to be found on the Internet. The magazine invites researchers and practitioners to submit articles describing their efforts and experiences with developments and key trends in Internet technologies and applications.

Special Issues
Special Issue on Humans Meet AISubmission Date: 2025-03-01Important Dates Submission deadline: 1 March 2025 Publication date: Nov/Dec 2025 Call for Papers AI is influencing how we think about, carry out, and achieve a variety of tasks. From systems that recommend what to watch next to assistants that help write scientific articles to military applications that identify targets to hit, AI is challenging what it means to be human. This special issue invites papers on the broad theme of humans and AI working together. We are particularly interested in the following questions: How will humans interact with, use, and benefit from the AI systems of tomorrow? What are the challenges for today’s AI and humans to work together? Social constructs such as empathy and respect are cornerstone for human-to-human interactions. What are the social constructs for human-AI collaborations? How would we model and reason on them? Would existing social science and communication theories play a role in designing and realizing new generation human-AI collaboration? If so, what are methods to incorporate them into computational settings? Topics of Interest include but not limited to: Models, methods, evaluation, and artifacts (such as testbeds and datasets) on Value-sensitive design and development of human-AI systems; Long-term human-AI collaboration, including sustainability and adaptation; Shared understanding (or misunderstanding) between humans and AI, e.g., how humans can navigate or even mislead AI (e.g., hiding information from AI); Positive (e.g., increased productivity) or negative (e.g., unemployment) impacts of human-AI systems; Usability, accessibility, adoptability, and inclusivity and human-AI systems; Ethical and social aspects of human-AI systems, including trust, fairness, explainability, and accountability. Submission Guidelines For author information and guidelines on submission criteria, visit the Author’s Information page. Please submit papers through the IEEE Author Portal and be sure to select the special issue or special section name. Manuscripts should not be published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. Please submit only full papers intended for review, not abstracts. If requested, abstracts should be sent by email to the guest editors directly. Special Issue on Programming Flexible Distributed Systems for the Internet EraSubmission Date: 2025-03-15Important Dates Submission deadline: 15 March 2025 Publication date: Sept/Oct 2025 Call for Papers Distributed systems form the foundation of the modern internet, driving applications across cloud computing, IoT, and edge networks. However, the increasing complexity of distributed environments demands a new class of systems: those that are flexible, capable of scaling dynamically, adapting to changing conditions, and maintaining robust performance and security under varying workloads and threats. Building such systems presents a significant challenge for developers. How do we design and program distributed systems that are not only scalable and adaptive but also robust and secure? This special issue seeks to address this question, focusing on the tools, techniques, and methodologies required to create scalable, adaptable, and resilient distributed systems that stand the test of real-world demands. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): Programming Languages and Models: Innovations in programming languages, abstractions, and frameworks that facilitate the development of scalable and adaptive distributed systems. Scalable and Sustainable System Architectures: Design and implementation of distributed systems that seamlessly scale in response to user demand and resource availability, while optimizing energy efficiency (e.g., workload shifting) and supporting multi-tenancy to enable cost-effective operations. Resilience and Robustness: Techniques for programming systems that maintain operational integrity under failures, changing workloads, or adverse conditions. Dynamic Adaptation: Approaches to designing systems that can reconfigure or reprogram themselves autonomously to adapt to changing environments. Secure and Trustworthy Systems: Security and privacy solutions that integrate with and enhance the flexibility of distributed systems. Middleware for Adaptability: Advances in middleware technologies that simplify programming adaptive and secure distributed applications. AI-Augmented Flexibility: Leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict, optimize, and adapt distributed systems to dynamic workloads. Development and Deployment Tools: Tools and methodologies for developers to test, debug, and deploy flexible distributed systems effectively. Case Studies and Best Practices: Real-world examples of building and programming systems that scale, adapt, and remain secure in diverse scenarios, such as cloud-native applications, edge computing, and IoT networks. Submissions should emphasize practical solutions, programming techniques, and system design principles that address the triad of scalability, adaptability, and robustness while incorporating strong security foundations. We seek original contributions that provide actionable insights into programming and developing next-generation distributed systems.
